What a Feeling.

I can’t really describe how I feel right now.

I know I’m not the only one.

Four years ago I took it very, very badly when Hillary wasn’t elected – not because she is perfect, she is not. Not because I particularly loved her. I don’t. I know she has made some, at best questionable, at worst full on dodgy calls, but the misogyny she was subjected to, made me feel sick to my stomach. And for the USA to elect, not only an horrendous, misogynistic racist, but a self confessed sexual offender to the highest office in the land really knocked me for six. They chose a sexual predator, completely unfit for ANY job, over a woman.

And now… Kamala Harris, a woman who I adore (and not just because she has the exact same dress sense as me… honest guv’nor) will be the next Vice President. A woman who is strong, and smart, and takes no shit from anyone.

Joe Biden may, indeed, be an old white dude. And yes, despite what Fox News would have you believe, he is a lot less left wing than is ideal, in my book, but he is a good man. He is a classy man and a kind man, who has experienced so much personal tragedy in his own life, and who could easily have accepted retirement four years ago, but who after Charlottesville knew he couldn’t just sit by and watch…. and Joe Biden is man enough to know that Kamala is the future.

Not only a woman. A woman of colour. For the last four years women of colour have been saving the US, because unfortunately a lot of white women just have’t stepped up to the plate.

The next couple of months will be turbulent. We all know the giant orange toddler will not go quietly, and I am genuinely concerned for the well-being of millions of Americans…

But right now…. Right now I can’t stop the tears of joy, and every time I think of Kamala Harris being the next Vice President of America, I have to catch my breath. That may sound over dramatic to some. But it’s the truth.

Thank you, America. Thank you for reminding me what hope feels like.
